MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY

ABORIGINAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT, CAMPUS REDEVELOPMENT

Balarinji was appointed by Macquarie University and Architectus to deliver stakeholder engagement to inform the planning of Macquarie University’s new courtyard precinct and Walanga Muru Building. Walanga Mura is the Office of Indigenous Strategy at Macquarie University. Balarinji’s role was to facilitate conversations around the location of the new Walanga Muru Building, understanding the community facilities and services that could be co-located, and how this courtyard would create new connections through the university.

Balarinji engaged with Macquarie’s key Indigenous leaders and wider stakeholder group to capture Indigenous aspirations for the project. Engagement included facilitating a half day workshop with the University’s Indigenous department, staff, students and Local Elders, plus one on one interviews with local knowledge holders. Ensuring that Aboriginal perspectives and requirements were acknowledged and considered was crucial to the success of this consultation.
