Developed using Balarinji’s leading-edge Designing with Country methodology with locally-connected Aboriginal knowledge and language holders, military veterans and Dharug-connected artists, it represents a new curatorial paradigm for Aboriginal public art.
With the overarching theme, ‘To protect Country is to belong’, the collection features 12 public artworks and interpretive content that reflect on the stories of the Frontier Wars, the shared service of Indigenous and non-Indigenous soldiers and the enduring connection of Dharug people to Country.
The works were co-created by Balarinji Studio with Dharug-connected artists Corina Wayali Norman, Jamie Eastwood and Jasmine Seymour. Sculptural advice was provided by Michael Snape and Karen Alexander. Dharug language collaboration was provided by Bayala Aboriginal Corporation.
